A former United States Marine and father of two children, Deputy Ryan Hendrix was an eight year veteran of the Henderson County, NC Sheriff's office at the time of his passing on September 10, 2020. Deputy Hendrix was a member of the SWAT team and also served as a field training officer.

Back up officers quickly arrived on scene and were able to transport Cpl. Sawyers to an area hospital for immediate surgery. We are grateful to report that Cpl.

He was later saved by fellow firefighters who were able transport him to Wake Forest Baptist Health where he succumbed to his injuries.
